A new study on the the mesopelagic zone “Spatial distribution and environmental preferences of the mesopelagic fish Maurolicus muelleri in the Eastern Mediterranean”, has just been published in the ICES Journal of Marine Science.
In this study, led by PhD candidate Alexandros Alamanellis, we explore how Maurolicus muelleri — one of the most abundant twilight-zone species in the region — is distributed in the eastern Mediterranean, and how environmental factors such as depth, and chlorophyll concentration shape its habitat preferences.
